Types of aquarium pump
Types of aquarium pump
A clean and dirt-free aquarium widely helps to keep the fishes alive and healthy. An aquarium can be kept clean through the comprehensive use of an aquarium pump. A pump is very important application in any form of aquarium. It has been widely said that, an aquarium pump is the heart of an aquarium, as it carries out the essential function of circulating water within the tank. It provides water movement in the aquarium, which is necessary for the inhabitants in an aquarium.
The pump also helps to remove stagnation and facilitates free circulation of water within the tank. It is extensively used to drive water to and fro, from an aquarium filter to the aquarium. Aquarium pumps provide circulation without currents and are hence preferred over powerhead pumps. There are two types of aquarium pumps.
1) External aquarium pump and
2) Internal or submersible aquarium pump
External aquarium pump:
This type of pump has an external motor that helps to pull water from the aquarium. It carefully helps to pump water and drives it out of the outlet of the aquarium. Whether it is an advanced fresh water aquarium, a marine or a reef aquarium, this type of pump is the most preferred and the most commonly used. Moreover, external aquarium pump is more powerful than a submersible or internal aquarium pump.
External pump moves the air with the help of a hose attached to the pump. This pump is ultimately dropped into the water of the aquarium. This type of pump is also used as return pump to feed filter water back to the aquarium and to drive several aquarium equipments such as Ultra violet sterilizers, protein skimmers, specialty filters and canister filters. All these aquarium equipment are a must for the proper functioning of an aquarium.
Internal aquarium pump:
This type of pump is also known as Submersible aquarium pump. It operates while being completely submerged inside a sump or aquarium. It functions exactly opposite to the external pump. This pump works by creating a movement or a current in the water. Unlike external pump, this type of pump does not have a hose or pipe attached to it. It is used to feed protein skimmers and reactors. An internal aquarium pump also heavily contributes in carrying out water movement within the tank.
